Gleaning Project 1998

On Saturday, August 8, seventeen members of St. Paul participated in a gleaning project.  The gleaning of the fields after the farmer has harvested the first fruits is a Biblical practice, and is used today as a way of feeding the hungry.  This particular gleaning was coordinated by the Baltimore Area Gleaning Network and Gloria Luster.
We traveled by car to the Parker Farm in Clinton, Maryland.  After getting instructions and praying, we headed out into a cucumber field to glean.  We gleaned from about 9:30-12:00 and gathered 5,000 pounds of cucumbers.  It was amazing to see how many left-overs there were.  The field had been harvested twice by the farmer and had previously been gleaned once. The harvest was truly plentiful. We say first hand the abundance of God's blessings.

There must be a cucumber here somewhere?

I can hold just a few more.
So many cucumbers?

 I like doing this.
